Cats

These are the three domestic cats I have skinned. I hope I do not offend anyone with these pictures.. in my opinion, cats are not any different than a raccoon or a fox. I would also like to make clear that I didn't kill these cats!! I love cats (I have a pet cat myself). All three of these were road kill. And I owe it to my wonderful dad for bringing me home these cats. Whenever he sees a roadkill cat (or anything else) in good condition, he puts it in the back of his truck and brings it home to me.

The gray tabby was the first cat that I skinned.

The cat was not in good enough condition for me to attempt mounting it, so I made it into a pelt. I tanned it with
Rittel's EZ-tan, and it is so very soft and flexible! This was my first time tanning, and I was extremely happy with the results.

The black and white cat was my second. It is about the size of the gray one.. a little bit larger.. and it's black fur is SO shiny!

Now THIS is one huge cat!! When dad brought me this cat, I thought it was a bobcat at first sight.. I was amazed by the size! But it is obviously just a VERY large domestic cat. The picture at the top of the page shows the size difference of it compared to the other two cats (and they are almost adult sized cats, not kittens!!)
This cat had a very thick skin, but I managed to tan it pretty soft.. although since I don't have the money for a fleshing/shaving machine, it took me hours to manually shave the flesh with a razor blade to get it soft. Then I sanded it with an electric sander after it was dry. It's definitely my favorite pelt!

This picture on the left shows you how nice and white-leathered a pelt turns out when tanned with EZ-Tan.

The skin is very white on the back and oh, so very soft! The skin is preserved, so it will last almost indefinitely.

Here is a little novelty I made using the gray cat's front paw. Similar to a lucky rabbit's foot, this is a "lucky" cat foot key chain!

These are cat skulls. The skull on the right came from the gray tabby that I skinned. As you can see from the size, it was a younger cat. The skull on the left was found from another road kill cat. This one was a mature adult. The skin was already rotten, but I was able to salvage the skull. I could not get the skull from the black cat or the orange tabby because their skulls were smashed. :(
