Now the tailbone must be stripped out. In some small mammals, it may not be possible to strip out the bone, and an incision will have to be made all the way down the underside of the tail to skin the bone out. But in the case of a rat, pliers may be used to pull out the bone. This picture shows the pelt and the rat carcass after the bone has been removed.
